Daily Scripture Threshing for Tuesday, May 21, 2024
Today’s Text: Genesis 6:8-10
Key Verse: Genesis 6:9 (WEB): "This is the history of the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time. Noah walked with God."
Walking with God is a personal decision. That is why despite any generation's degenerate state, we can still find God's good men who, like Noah, would be worth the mention and commendation of God in their ages. If there is anything to learn from the biblical narratives of the man called Noah, it is the fact that true piety can survive the darkest ages and live through the most arduous toils.
Godly men may not know most of the mind of God in reference to their world's destiny and future; but they understand the significance of walking with God. Unfortunately, the opposite is also true. People who fail to walk with God miss the day of their visitation by becoming hardened until calamity strikes. But men who walk with God will not be included in the destructions which overtake the wicked.
We are blessed with many scriptural examples that prove how walking with God can help survive the darkest ages and live through the most arduous toils: Despite being mocked and despised, Noah maintained a life of obedience and he and his household escaped the flood. In spite of being sold into slavery, falsely accused, and imprisoned, Joseph remained faithful and trusted God, eventually rising to become a leader in Egypt.
Daniel and his friends faced persecution and trials in Babylon, but their walk with God remained unwavering, even in the face of death. Job suffered unimaginable loss and pain, yet he continued to trust and worship God, declaring, "Though He slay me, yet will I hope in Him" (Job 13:15). David wrote about God's guidance and protection during his darkest moments, saying, "Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me" (Psalm 23:4).
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego: three Hebrew men refused to bow to the idol, even when faced with the fiery furnace, demonstrating unwavering faith and walk with God. Paul and Silas, despite being beaten, imprisoned, and facing opposition, continued to pray, sing, and share the Gospel, leading to the conversion of their jailer. And above all, Jesus, our Lord, endured the cross, despising the shame, and remained faithful to His Father's will, demonstrating the ultimate example of walking with God in the face of darkness and toil.
Friends, let the story of Noah, the life of Christ our Lord, and these scriptural examples inspire you to remain steadfast in your faith, even during the most challenging times, knowing that true piety can survive and thrive in the darkest ages. God bless you. Amen.
Quote for the Day: "Walk with God, and you'll stand out in a world gone astray." (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, help me to walk with You in a world filled with darkness and chaos, may I be a beacon of hope and light, standing firm in my commitment to You so much that my life would be a reflection of Your character, and honor and glory — in Jesus's most glorious name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
