Watch for the Glue Traps

Today’s Scripture Threshing for Tuesday, June 11, 2019

Today’s Text: 1 John 2:15-17

Key Verses: 1 John 2:16 (ESV): “For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world.

Adam Hamilton tells the story of moving into his house after it was built only to discover that it was infested with mice. So he got glue traps which have a scent that attracts the mice. They step on it and then are stuck. Then he easily successfully killed the mice and disposed them off. However, while doing so, he found how they struggled to free themselves in vain—actually gnawing off their feet in vain.

Friends, today’s text is an exhortation to watch against lust and its power in our lives. We all know how lust smells good, feels good and looks good until we find ourselves stuck in its glue trap. We pull and try to get away and we can’t quite break free. And so many great destinies have died a slow and painful death in the glue trap of women like Ms. Potiphar, Bathsheba, Delilah, Drusilla, and Jezebel; or in the glue trap of sorcery’s subtle sin in search for power, popularity and purpose.

Quote for the Day: “Any such desires of the flesh and eyes that pomp the flesh, the Apostle John says belong to the pride of life, and are not from the Father but from the world. They are nothing, but glue traps.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, I come before You, gentle Saviour, seeking Your help in battling temptations. Cleanse my mind, my body, my soul, of all lustful desires. Deliver me from the evil one. Protect me from his deceitful lies, in Jesus name. Amen.

With all my love and prayer,
