Daily Scripture Threshing for Wednesday, March 25, 2020
Today’s Text: Psalm 115:1-10
Key Verse: Psalm 115:1 (KJV): ”Not unto us, O Lord, not unto us, but unto thy name give glory, for thy mercy, and for thy truth’s sake.
Still in the days of reflection, today’s text reminds one of the Westminster Shorter Catechism, which concludes that “man’s chief end is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.” Can we just let this principle govern our thoughts, actions and life? To glorify God is to acknowledge Him both for who He truly is—His infinite greatness and worth; and for what He has done—His manifold graces toward us.
Unfortunately, rather than give all the glory to God for such a beautiful world, we are busy trying to hijack His glory, kick Him out of our thoughts and systems, and claim His world to ourselves. O how we are like the bumbling fire fighters, whom while they celebrate their rescue of an elderly lady‘s cat—were treated to a tea for their impressive haste, very cleverly and plausible heroic action—ran over the cat and killed it while they were busy waving their hands with fond farewells as they drove off. Friends, let our attitude be guided by the fact that there is nothing we have that we did receive from God.
Quote for the Day: "If we learn the secret of waving our thankful hands to God, not only does He further protect what we have received; but He also presents the things that we need as well as prevents those we do not.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, it is not easy to give thanks during these days but we chose to wave our washed hands to you in gratitude for who you are and for every thing, inJesus Christ name, Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, PhD
