Why Meekness is not a Weakness, But a Gentle Might

Daily Scripture Threshing for Saturday, June 22, 2024

Today’s Text: Matthew 5:2-12

Key Verse: Matthew 5:5 (ESV): “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth."

In a bragful and boastful world, its like dropping a bombshell when Jesus said, 'Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.' Indeed, he was challenging the conventional arrogance and/or wisdom both of His time and ours. In essence, He was teaching us that true happiness and fulfillment do not come from our cleverness, aggressiveness, or wealthy. Instead, they come from a quiet, humble, and gentle spirit of a meek person. As mist people may think, meekness is not about being weak or passive. It is about being confident in God's love and staying humble in His provision. A humble man is one who surrenders his sense of control and recognition.

It wasn't an issued command, such as, 'You must be meek.' But our Lord clearly sets a spiritual standard that unlocks true happiness and joy. He wants us to know that when we embrace meekness, we are not being weak or stupid; instead, we open ourselves to God's guidance, wisdom, and power. We can be meek and at the same time be proud of our accomplishments in Christ. It's not necessarily wrong to feel a sense of pride or satisfaction in your God-given grace and achievements. However, pride or boasting can indicate a lack of meekness.

Meekness is about recognizing that our talents, skills, and successes are gifts from God. It's about staying humble and acknowledging that we didn't get where we are solely through our own efforts. So, it's okay to celebrate your accomplishments, but do so with a heart of gratitude and humility. Recognize that your successes are not just about you, but, first, about God from whom all blessings flow, and then about the people who supported you, the opportunities you received, and the grace of God that sustains you. When you live like this, you'd have the whole earth to inherit because more blessings will come to you.

Quote for the Day: "Meekness is not weakness. It is the strength of God's grace working in our lives, enabling us to surrender our will to His and find true happiness in doing so." (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, please help me to embrace meekness and humility in my life. Forgive me for the times I've sought to elevate myself instead of surrendering to Your will. Fill me with Your grace and strength, that I may find true happiness and joy in You. Let all my accomplishments be a reflection of Your goodness and guidance, and teach me to always acknowledge Your presence in my life — in Jesus's most glorious name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
