Why Our Nations are the Way they are

Daily Scripture Threshing for Thursday, January 27, 2022

Today’s Text: Proverbs 14:28-35

Key Verse: Proverbs 14:34 (NKJV): “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.

The higher our civilization rises, the lower our nations sink. And the consequences of this scriptural warning are upon us today as well as the truth and reality of it. This has a lot to do with why we are the way we are. It answers why the moral landscape of our nations and cultures is on the decline; or why biblical standards and principles of righteousness and other issues of godliness are compromised. Something important has been missing, and another irrelevant thing has been increased. But today's scripture helps us to find out just what these are. Sin has such a great effect than we all recognized. It debases us and relegates any good thing.

Our nations seeks all means to exclude God and violate His laws. Our homes no longer seek to inculcate or impact godly culture on children anymore. We live the upbringing of our children to their unregenerate school teachers, inexperienced peers and ungodly social media. But when we seek God through right living, we are literally lifted up or made to prosper. Yes, together, we all can change the future of our nation; but it must start with each person making sure we have the right influence first in our lives. Only spiritual men can nurture spiritually strong families. Only rightly living Christians can better influence and create indelible series of effects that will positively impact and lift our nations.

This is what is meant by righteousness exalts. God greatly honors and causes others to regard any people who live right before Him. Unfortunately, this generation ignores this truth and pays very little or no attention to it. We pray and fast; but that is not what exalts a nation. We commit to charity, philanthropism, justice, and democracy; but non of those are in the scriptural yardstick. Someone had said we all need to get down on our knees at the beautiful feet of Christ when we find ourselves on the ugly side of life.

Quote for the Day: “We thrive and prosper when righteousness prevails. We suffer and fail when decadence is the case.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, You are a righteous God. I desire to be more like You. Help me Lord to actively pursue righteousness and love. Let me be a living example of life, prosperity, and honor that flow from living right — in Jesus’ name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
