Will a Man Rob God?

Daily Scripture Threshing for Thursday, May 23, 2024

Today’s Text: Malachi 3:7-12

Key Verse: Malachi 3:10 (SRV): "Bring the whole tithe into the store so that there may be provision in my house. Test me in this," says the Lord Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it."

When believing God for enlargement, a man made a covenant to pay a tithe (10%) of his income to his church. So, his income began to grow, and so did his tithe from $1,000 to $10,000 to $100,000. But when he earned $6 million, he really struggled to part with $600,000 for a tithe. So he begged his pastor to release him from the covenant, stating that it was too costly among to pay as tithe. At this, the pastor knelt and said a silent prayer. When he was done, the man was curious what the pastor prayed about. "I prayed God to return your income back to the level where you would not have so much tithe to struggle with again!" Replied the pastor.

Does this story reflect your state of mind or affairs? Where arw you in your tithing? Are you robbing God or about to do so? It is important for us to see God as the supreme owner of all goods and the provider. Accepting that He (God) owns all and is worthy of all is the acid test of our values. It tests whether our faith is controlled by the love of money or the love of money is controlled by our faith. This is a reminder to all of us that tithing is an act of worship, obedience, and trust in God's provision.

Today’s passage of Malachi highlights how Israel was charged with the offense of robbing God because they were faithless, breaking their covenant with Him and refusing to pay tithes of his provisions for them. However, because of His great love, He was compelled to offer them one last chance to repent and bring the whole (not half or part) tithe into the store so that there may be provision in His house. The call to tithe is a biblical principle and a spiritual discipline that tests our faith, trust, and obedience to God. It's a reminder that everything we have belongs to Him, and we're merely stewards of His blessings. May your faith be strengthened, and may you experience the joy of tithing and the blessings that follow!

Quote for the Day: "Tithing is not just about giving a portion of your income, but also about surrendering your heart and trusting in God's provision." (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, we acknowledge Your abundant blessings in our lives. Help us to be faithful stewards of all that you've entrusted to us. So that our tithes and offerings become a testimony of our faith and obedience, and may they be used to further your kingdom and bless others — in Jesus's most glorious name. Amen.
