Winning Wisdom for Energy Savings

Good morning and blessings on you all,

Proverbs 8:12 saysI, wisdom, dwell with prudence, and I find knowledge and discretion.”

Wisdom is key for us, not just at summer, but all times. By above scripture, wisdom helps men to find witty inventions — all kinds of ingenious designs and contrivances first for the glory of God, and also for the good of mankind.

Demand for electricity is usually and expected to be high during summer; but you can save yourself some unnecessary utility bills following some wise tips.

At the House of Prayer, we are touched by the total need of the total man (male or female). And we care about whatever drains you. I was with a family during this past week and I heard them complain bitter about skyrocketing electricity bill. Like I was able to do with them, I like to share with you some wise ways to win with utility at this time—especially on electric.

Energy conservation is the effort made to reduce the consumption of energy by using less of an energy service. This can be achieved either by using energy more efficiently or by reducing the amount of service used.

Many factors contribute to high electricity bills — in particular, the hot summer weather presents us a great challenge but also has some advantages, which may be tapped to overcome the challenges.

Tips:

1. Use summer’s bright sunshine to dry laundry. Take advantage of the warm weather to hang laundry outside to dry. Running the dryer not only requires a great deal of electricity, but also raises the overall temperature of the house. 2. Set thermostats 2 to 3 degrees higher from 2 to 7 p.m. and use fans to feel 4 to 6 degrees cooler. 3. Follow the 4-by-4 rule: if no one is going to be home for more than 4 hours, set the temperature 4 degrees higher while you’re gone. 4. Set pool pumps to run early in the morning or overnight; shut off from 4 to 6 p.m. 5. Wait until after sundown to wash clothes and use your dishwasher. 6. Opt for thermal drapes or black-out curtains to keep the heat outside your home and the cool air inside. 7. Install ceiling fans and set the blades to spin counter-clockwise to circulate cool air. 8. Change your air filter regularly to ensure the AC is running at its best. 9. When you run your AC, think about ways the cool air could be escaping from the intended area.

Lastly, please don’t minimize the place of prayer. There may be a loophole somewhere you need to discover and seal up. God can reveal that or those to you if you ask him. Remember, he is the source of wisdom, and he promises to give to anyone who asks him.  He said: “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” (James 1:5)

Together on the journey,
