Today’s Text: Proverbs 3:1-8
Key Verse: Proverbs 3:7 (ASV): Be not wise in thine own eyes; fear Jehovah, and depart from evil.”
Living in the State of Texas, which has the highest database for reportable motor vehicle traffic accidents nationwide, I have come to realize that the highest cause of road traffic accidents is non-yielding mentality. Generally, human arrogance hates to yield. Only God knows how many marriages have been ruined because a man or wife would not yield.
I remember arriving early at a doctor’s office on an appointment. A first staff to arrive was a few steps ahead of me. But I noticed cobwebs against two poles just before their door. The lady was heading hastily for the door and browsing her bag for her keys, and did not notice the cobweb. I tried in vain to stop her. “Good morning, ma’am, please watch out for cobwebs by your door. “Cobwebs? What’s that?” She asked. “Yes, it’s there, wait, wait!” I said. “Do you mean Spider webs?” She argued indifferently but kept walking until she gathered the cobwebs by her face and hair.
I felt so sorry for her because, not only was her make-up messed up, but she also got a spider sting. This encounter is a great lesson. We need to develop teachable spirit that patiently seek wisdom different than ours. Today’s text cautions us not to be impressed with our own wisdom. Instead, a better attitude is recommended by the wise writer: Do not to feel wise in your own eyes. A humble spirit inclines the ear to wisdom, searching for it like a hidden treasures. He said.
Quote for the Day: “No better way to attain honor and a satisfied desire than living with teachable spirit.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, I praise you for being the author of all truth and thank you for the ability to learn. Please help me humbly pursue wisdom and learning for your glory and to serve others. Lead me by your Spirit to pursue growth and avoid things that hinder it — in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
